Legality & Licensing

Legality & Licensing

What is FAA Part 107?

FAA Part 107 is the federal regulation governing commercial drone operations in the United States. It requires pilots to pass a knowledge test and hold a Remote Pilot Certificate before flying drones for business purposes, including photography, mapping, and inspections.

Do drone pilots need a license to fly commercially in Texas?

Yes. Anyone flying a drone for commercial purposes anywhere in the United States, including Texas, must hold an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate. Flying commercially without one is illegal and can carry significant fines.

Can you fly near Goodfellow Air Force Base or San Angelo Regional Airport?

San Angelo has real airspace considerations due to Goodfellow Air Force Base and San Angelo Regional Airport (Mathis Field). Some properties fall within controlled airspace that requires authorization before a flight. We handle that airspace planning as part of every job and will let you know in advance if your property requires additional authorization.

Does my property have airspace restrictions?

It depends on your location relative to airports and other controlled airspace in the region. We check airspace for every property before scheduling a flight and handle any required authorization on your behalf.

How much do drone services cost in San Angelo?

Pricing varies by service and depends on factors like property size or site scope, whether video is included, travel distance, and turnaround time. Contact us with your project details for a free, no-obligation quote.

What factors affect the price of a drone photography or mapping project?

The main factors are the size of the property or site, the type of deliverables needed (photos, video, mapping data, or a combination), travel distance from San Angelo, and how quickly you need results delivered.

Do you charge extra to travel outside San Angelo?

Travel distance is one of the factors we consider when quoting a project, since we regularly travel throughout the Concho Valley and West Texas. Let us know your project location when requesting a quote and we'll factor it in.

How do I book a drone project?

Submit a request through our quote form or call us directly. We'll discuss your project, confirm scope and timeline, and schedule a flight date once details are finalized.

What happens if the weather doesn't cooperate on my scheduled flight date?

Drone flights depend on safe weather conditions, including wind, precipitation, and visibility. If conditions aren't safe to fly on the scheduled date, we'll work with you to reschedule as quickly as possible.

What file formats do you deliver?

Photography and video are delivered in standard, ready-to-use image and video formats. Mapping and photogrammetry data can be delivered in formats compatible with common GIS and CAD software, including GeoTIFF, LAS, and DXF. We'll confirm the exact format you need before the flight.

How quickly will I receive my photos or data?

Turnaround depends on the size and complexity of the project. Most real estate galleries are delivered within a few business days. Mapping and construction monitoring deliverables can take longer depending on processing requirements, which we'll outline when you book.

How accurate is drone mapping and photogrammetry data?

Accuracy depends on flight altitude, camera resolution, and whether ground control points are used. We'll discuss the accuracy requirements for your specific project, including options for higher-precision surveys, before scheduling a flight.

What equipment do you use?

We fly commercial-grade drones capable of high-resolution photography, 4K video, and photogrammetry data capture. Equipment is selected based on the requirements of each project.
